Motion City Soundtrack on request

photos and article by Amy Willard

As an anxious sold out crowd packed in towards the barricade of the Recher Theater in Towson Md, “Walk the Dinosaur” by Was (Not Was) began echoing through the venue. A fitting intro track for a band that just released its fourth studio album, My Dinosaur Life. The music continued to fill the room while a familiar mop of tousled hair, and thick specks approached the stage.

With his arms raised, Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack acknowledged the already buzzing atmosphere and opened the hour long set with “Worker Bee,” a tone setting song for a new year, and a new headlining tour for this Minnesota based band.

Not shying away from classic hits, the set featured loyal fan favorites: “The Future Freaks Me Out,” “My Favorite Accident,” and “Even If It Kills Me.” In a twist of events, an testament to the raw talent of Motion City Soundtrack, the band accepted the crowd request for I Am The Movie track, “Red Dress.”

Pierre apologized prior to the opening lines, and scrambled to get the rifts in order for this “out-of-practice” stint; although not a perfect rendition, it still left fans pumped and impressed. Motion City Soundtrack continued on with the set list until minor technical difficulties required the assistance of a stage hand to re-equip the lead singer’s monitor.

After an hour of non-stop energy pulsating through the Recher, Motion City Soundtrack’s headline came to a close with “LG FUAD” and followed up with an encore of their recent single, “Disappear.”

You can catch Motion City Soundtrack on tour through April, and is slated to play the Bamboozle Festival in NJ in May. Be sure to pick up your copy of My Dinosaur Life available now.
