Hopeless and Sub City want you to Do Something

Hopeless Records and Sub City have put together an amazing lineup for this year’s Take Action! Tour. A portion of all the ticket sales go towards DoSomething.Org, the organization that Hopeless/Sub City has chosen to be a part of this cool tour for the second consecutive year. The Cleveland show, which was only the second date of the tour, was packed into the House of Blues. Five bands for twenty dollars? Why not? A lot of kids seemed to think the same thing, judging by the amount of people that showed up. Nathanson to Change Tour AGAIN

Due to changes in the upcoming Jack's Mannequin tour, originally planned opener, San Francisco acoustic guitarist, Matt Nathanson, is now uncertain of his participation.  The Nathanson camp is strongly suggesting people who are purchasing Jack's Mannequin tickets in order to see Matt Nathanson to wait until all confirmed dates are posted next week.

Blink Is Back

Yeah yeah... we know this is "old news" (or at least should be) that after appearing at this year's Grammy Awards, Blink 182 plans to reunite to make music again.  What we didn't realize is how many people actually cared.  Social networks like Facebook and MySpace have seen an influx of status updates, display name changes, and even thousands of bumper stickers dedicated to the revival of this long lost pop-punk trio.  Clearly we're in an age of comebacks... Backstreet Boys, New Kids On the Block, The Get Up Kids, Britney Spears.

Who's next, N'Sync??!! (teenage girls of the 90's can only hope.)

Take Action Tour comes to DC

The 2009 Sub Pop Take Action Tour will return to Washington DC's 9:30 Club on February 22, featuring Cute Is What We Aim For, along with Meg & Dia, Breathe Carolina, Every Avenue, and Anarbor. DC Label Throws In Towel

Local DC record label, Gypsy Eye Records, announced this morning that they will no longer be.  The label distributed this message:

Hello All,

We are writing this to let you know that after much thought and exploration of all available options, we have decided that it is time to shutter Gypsy Eyes. It was a very hard decision, but our only option at this time.

If any of you want, we have copies of your albums that we will give you back, you are, effective immediately, free from any contractual obligations to Gypsy Eyes. The albums are currently at Nick's studio, please let us know if you want the product back and when you can come and get them. If you do not want them, please let us know that as well.

We are really sorry this didn't work out. You guys are all incredibly talented, we love the music, and we hope this has not been a bad experience for you.

According to the DCist.com, The City Paper was planning a cover story about the label and it's struggle to stay afloat in these harsh economic times.

Langerado Cancelled.

In a press release from Skope Entertainment:

Today, the 2009 Langerado Music Festival is cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales.  The 7th annual event was slated to happen March 6-8 at their new home in downtown Miami's Bicentennial Park.

Langerado's independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, cancelled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.

As Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains, "Langerado has always put the fan experience first.  Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it's become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make.  We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time."

All tickets purchased will be refunded.  Please look for ticket refunds to be processed in the next 5-7 business days.   Each order will be refunded to the credit card in full, minus the included order processing fees.  Shipping fees will also be credited for those orders that did not select the free shipping promotion.

50 year anniversary

February 3rd marks the anniversary of the day, that Don McLean described in 1971, "the music died."  A small single engine plane, carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and Jiles P. Richardson crashed into a field over Iowa, killing all three.  Their final show which took place hours prior at the Surf Ballroom was named a historic landmark earlier this week by the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

Cover of the Week

This week's cover comes from Arkansas pop/punk rockers, School Boy Humor and their take on last summer's sickening single, "Realize" by Colbie Caillat.  Releasing on Vagrant Records, their debut full length is due out on February 24, 2009.  Produced by Geoff Rockwell (Forever the Sickest Kids), we're expecting some contemporary flair.

Think of You Later

So Barricade Buzz became obsessed with pop-punk rockers, Every Avenue,  early last summer (check out our playlists if you don't believe us). Anywho we came across their video for one of our favorite tracks off of their 2008 release, Shh, Just Go With It on Fearless Records.  The album features many a poignant lyric combined with an undeniably catchy backdrop that is a real competitor with today's mainstream.
